FIBROIDS

You’re likely to have fibroids if you suffer from these symptoms:

  • Heavy, painful and irregular periods
  • Pelvic pain
  • A large uterus or a bulky lower abdomen
  • Miscarriage and infertility
  • Painful intercourse

Fibroids affect women between the ages of 15-45 years. Uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE) is a less invasive non-surgical procedure that uses imaging technology to deliver embolic agents to fibroids to cut off their blood supply.

Listen to the podcast for more information on the diagnosis and modern, non-surgical, treatment of fibroids known as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).

ADENOMYOSIS (Endometriosis) – SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS

What symptoms are found in women with adenomyosis?

  • No menstruation or irregular, painful periods
  • Heavy periods with blood clots
  • Infertility and trouble falling pregnant.

Adenomyosis affects women between the ages of 25-45. An MRI scan or transvaginal ultrasound is conducted to diagnose adenomyosis accurately. Hormone therapy, uterine artery embolisation and surgery to remove the womb (hysterectomy) are adenomyosis treatments.

Listen to the podcast on adenomyosis symptoms and treatment.

CONGESTION (Pelvic)

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

You may have pelvic congestion syndrome if:

  • You are between 35-55 years of age.
  • Had more than one pregnancy
  • You have pelvic pain.

Veins in the pelvic region dilate and cause pain, especially while menstruating. Embolisation and sclerotherapy cut off blood supply to damaged veins. Image guidance directs catheters to seal faulty veins.

Listen to the podcast on pelvic pain and management.
